A rare first edition of Ausonius edited by Joseph Scaliger (1540–1609). In the second work, Scaliger explains the methods and principles he employed in preparing his edition of Ausonius.
The third work, Varia Historia (“Miscellaneous Histories”) by the historian Aelian (c. 175–235 AD), is particularly sought after for the numerous fragments and quotations from ancient authors that it preserves, including passages derived from writers such as Pliny and Aristotle.
