Three parts in one volume: 2 unnumbered leaves, pagination from 3 to 230, then 2 unnumbered leaves. Historiated initials. Traces of old dampstaining at the beginning of the work. Contemporary full parchment binding (some losses and soiling). One hinge is open, some gatherings are almost detached. Armorial bookplate and autograph signature of Pellissier de Féligonde. Engraving of the printer Sébastien Gryphe's griffin on the title page and colophon. A very rare second Lyon edition of this important historical and geographical treatise devoted to the ancient Cisalpine populations and their capital, Milan. Gaudenzio Merula (1500–1555), Italian Renaissance writer and historian, here signs one of his most sought-after works, printed by the renowned humanist Sébastien Gryphe. The book is extremely rare. Referenced in the libraries of Lyon and Cologne. Fewer than ten copies are known...
