"Flemish Brass Candlestick With A Square Base – Schijfkandelaar – 17th Century"
A 17th-century Flemish brass candlestick of the schijfkandelaar type. The octagonal base has chamfered corners and is stepped, with a slight molding around the edge. The stem has a baluster profile, composed of several superimposed bulges and grooves, characteristic of metal turning of the period. A flat, circular intermediate plate (ferrule), positioned halfway up the stem, was designed to catch wax drips. The cylindrical bobèche sits atop the stem, slightly flared at its end. The piece has an old, golden patina, with areas of wear and oxidation where it has been handled, indicating prolonged use. Two incised marks are visible: one on the base, the other on the stem, suggesting a workshop mark. Good overall condition. Dimensions: Height 35 cm – Base 18 x 18 cm
