Rare Large Saint Benedict Medal In Bronze - Early 17th Century - Demon Protection
Rare large bronze Saint-Benoit medal. On the obverse, we can see Saint Benedict face-on, his right hand outstretched and his left hand holding his saint's toga. Inscriptions: SP BENEDICTUS On the reverse, a phrase inscribed in Latin and taken from the Psalms (72-25). WHAT MIHI IS IN COELO AND A TE QUID VOLUI SUPER TERRAM? This medal was pierced to be worn as a pendant (probably original). These pendant medals are very rare. They were used by certain priests during exorcism sessions, because they are supposed to protect against evil forces, accidents or illnesses. The Saint Benedict medal particularly has great power of exorcism and liberation from demonic influences. Early 17th century 3.8cm high 3cm wide
