Fichu In Indienne Printed With Quarter Moons - Provence Circa 1820
Circa 1820-1830
Provence
Beautiful woodblock printed fichu on cotton with orange background, dating from the early Romantic period. Full orange - rust fields with floral borders and quarter-moon spandrels on all four sides. Friezes with sloping palm - boteh designs, typical of the Empire-Restauration period. Here, the green color is obtained by superimposing blue and yellow. A few repairs, notably in the corners, small stains and marks in the diagonal folds that are not visible when worn. Finely rolled and hand-sewn edges. Printing factory not identified but most likely Avignon en Provence. Good condition.
Dimensions: approx. 100 cm X 100 cm.
