Rolex Lever Pocket Watch, Circa 1930
Artist: Rolex
A pocket watch from the prestigious Rolex manufacture.
Rolex was founded in London in 1905.
At that time, the company did not yet produce watches entirely in-house but assembled Swiss components of the highest quality into British cases.
To circumvent the heavy import taxes on precious metals imposed to finance the war effort during World War I, Rolex shipped bare movements from Switzerland, which were then encased directly in England by the Dennison Watch Case Company.
Even the dials usually did not bear the Rolex name, but often remained blank or bore the retailer’s name.
The movement, featuring "perlage" finishing, bears the inscription "Rolex Lever Swiss Made" and has a 17-jewel anchor escapement with 3 adjustments.
Excellent condition, in working order.
925 silver case, "Special" model by "Dennison Watch Case," hallmarked and dating to 1927.
The dust cover is engraved with a dedication marking the retirement of an Eastbourne police sergeant in 1934.
Dimensions: 49mm
