History of the sale to Charles and Jayne Wrightsman they officially took possession and purchased the entire 3rd floor in 1956. They also acquired much of the furniture and objets d'art that Baroness de Becker , owned in the apartment.
*** background to the subject: the work was inspired by a Sorbonne professor emeritus specializing in early painters (Professor K . S )
"Dear Eddy,
You have a lovely drawing. It's inspired by the Melun diptych painted by Jean Fouquet, in particular the panel preserved in Antwerp (see photo)
Signature: and here's the rub, the work is masterfully executed on blue-gray paper (mixed technique) in ink and gouache, and bears an initialled monogram in the lower right-hand corner (see photo), and the style reminds me strongly of René Magritte (surrealism-new realism) before the Second World War. **** This is the only information I have at the moment, as I don't have access to the archives of the Baroness de Becker's collections in New York. ***** Perhaps the future will tell me more.
With all due respect, Eddy Schelck Brussels .
Dimensions: at first glance, the oval should measure about 26 cm H , but the work is rectangular underneath ( see photo )
