Pair Of Bohemian Lithyalin Glass Vases 1820
Artist: Friedrich Egermann (1777-1864)
Pair of faceted vases in lithyalin glass from the Charles X period. These belly-shaped pirifo vases are composed of ten facets, supported by a slight circular heel. They adopt the lithyalin glass technique discovered in Bohemia by Friedrich Egermann. By doubling the layers of glass with metallic oxides, we obtain the appearance of semi-precious stones such as agate! By case-hardening with silver or copper, colors can be varied. Egermann had his secret stolen during a burglary! His process was then used in the Saint Louis and Baccarat glassworks in the second half of the 19th century.
