During the Restoration period (1814–1830), opaline glass experienced a remarkable revival, driven by the innovations of Bohemian glassworks and the European elite’s growing appreciation for ornamental objects inspired by Antiquity. The celebrated “gorge-de-pigeon” opaline, with its delicate dove-grey and pink iridescent hues, was achieved through exceptional mastery of glass coloration techniques, producing tones reminiscent of precious stones and the finest porcelain.

The Medici vase form, directly inspired by ancient models rediscovered in the 18th century, perfectly reflects the prevailing Neoclassical taste.
