Pair of silver-plated knife rests with a central cylindrical bar, supported by two rectangular bases surmounted by fully modelled reclining sphinxes wearing the nemes headdress.
Marks beneath the bases: a series of silversmith’s marks and model number “367”.

Imbued with the Neo-Egyptian aesthetic that became highly fashionable following the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb in the 1920s, these knife rests combine the stylistic vocabulary of the Egyptian Revival with the rigorous lines of Art Deco. The sphinxes wearing the nemes and the geometric construction of the supports create a striking synthesis of ancient Egyptian imagery and modern decorative design
