Cabinet-style fish-carving set (ceremonial scoop and fork) in silver (or silver-plated metal) entirely gilded with fine gold (vermeil). The tapered handles feature sumptuous guilloché enamel decoration in a violet-pink/lilac colour, framed by delicate bands of pearls and foliage. The bases of the handles are accented with moulded ivory-coloured rings. In its original black velvet and silk case.

This sumptuous fish-carving set is a cabinet piece characteristic of the prestigious creations of the House of Fabergé. Bearing the hallmark 84 and the initials HW, it is a direct creation of Henrik Wigström (1862–1923), one of the firm’s most famous and talented chief goldsmiths, who worked in Saint Petersburg, where he succeeded Michael Perchin in 1903.

Wigström has established himself as the undisputed master of the Louis XVI and Neoclassical styles as applied to objets d’art. His immense craftsmanship is evident here in the technique of translucent enamel set against a guilloché background of horizontal waves. The violet-pink (or lilac) colour, which is particularly difficult to stabilise during firing on gold or vermeil, was one of the favourite shades of the Russian imperial family and the European aristocratic clientele. The delicate rocaille engravings on the vermeil earrings complete this exceptionally rare set, which is preserved in its original case.
