French Opaline Glass Perfume Bottle Bronze Mounted With Porcelain Plaques
A significant perfume bottle in opaline glass, known as ‘rice paste’, with a rich ‘cathedral’-style setting in chiselled and gilded bronze, adorned with porcelain medallions. The pear-shaped body, crafted from semi-translucent milky-white opaline, is encased in a superb gilded bronze cage, finely cut and chiselled with foliage scrolls, volutes and neo-Gothic and Romantic arabesques. The body features three domed circular medallions in hand-painted porcelain depicting bouquets of roses and wildflowers in naturalistic style, encircled by a turquoise-blue and gold border. The original stopper, pear-shaped and made of opaline, is crowned by a gilded bronze mount with foliage motifs, surmounted by a finely chiselled lion in the round. The whole stands on a fluted gilded bronze tripod decorated with acanthus scrolls, ending in ball-shaped feet.
