American Patriotic Razor, Pressed Horn, Washington & Independence
A fine commemorative straight razor celebrating American Independence, featuring two different pressed buffalo horn scales molded under heat. These display cameo-style profile portraits of Washington and Preble on one side, and Voltaire and Montesquieu on the other.
At the center is the American eagle, surmounted by 13 stars, symbolizing the original independent states.
The reverse side presents an allegory of the sciences and the arts.
All relief decorations are precise, well-defined, and in good condition, with no cracks or breaks.
Dating from the early 19th century (circa 1800–1830), likely made in Europe (often Sheffield) for the American market.
Good overall condition, with typical wear and minor signs of use.
The unsigned steel blade is original, slightly worn at the tip, and will look excellent after polishing.
