Marcel Dominique Poggioli (1882-1959) was a Corsican-born painter trained at the Beaux-Arts in Marseille and Paris. After a stay in Italy, he returned to Marseille, where he took part in various salons. He mainly painted Provençal and Corsican landscapes, took on commissions for decorative programs and produced illustrations for books. In 1921, he was appointed Professor of Drawing and Decorative Art at the Beaux-Arts de Marseille, a position he held until 1948. At the same time, he regularly visited his studio in Ajaccio and his home in southern Corsica. Several of his works are now exhibited at the Palais Fesch-Musée des Beaux-Arts d'Ajaccio.
Note lacks in the frame's gilded moldings.
