Bronze with brown patina representing The Sower of Ideas, an allegorical figure embodying the spread of knowledge and intellectual progress. Émile Louis Picault (1833-1915) was a French sculptor particularly active during the second half of the XIXᵉ century. A major exhibitor at official Salons, he specialized in allegorical and symbolic subjects, in the spirit of his time. His work regularly celebrated patriotic, intellectual and moral values, through figures such as Le Génie des Sciences (1894), Le Guerrier Gaulois (1885) and La Vaillance (1897).
