Marius Giuge, Ceramic Bouillabaisse Set From Vallauris, 20th Century

A large bouillabaisse dinner set consisting of 57 pieces, including:

• A covered soup tureen

• A sauce boat

• 3 serving dishes

• 19 dinner plates

• 13 soup bowls

• 20 small round plates

With the exception of the round plates, each piece is shaped like a fish, a direct reference to its function. Featuring brown-ochre colors accented with speckled green highlights, they are crafted in relief to mimic the scales and anatomy of fish.

Mark on the reverse: “MARIUS GIUGE / ARTISAN POTIER / VALLAURIS”

Marius Giuge (1909–1980) was a French ceramicist active in Vallauris from the 1950s to the 1970s. He is best known for his tableware sets and decorative objects featuring speckled or marbled designs.

A few chips are present on various pieces.
Good overall condition.
Dated to the 1960s.
