Portrait of a Gentleman, an ivory miniature signed "Menghini ft." for Benedetto Menghini, a Roman miniaturist active between 1810 and 1830.
Considered by Schidlof (La miniature en Europe, Graz 1964, II, p. 566) to be a highly skilled artist due to his fine draftsmanship and expressiveness, he displays all his qualities in this delightful portrait. The oval is set in its original gilded bronze frame with a pure gold border.
Excellent condition.
