Saint Joseph And The Infant Jesus : Gilded Wood Statue - Alsace 17th Century - 72cm

Large statue of Saint Joseph carrying the infant Jesus in carved wood (basswood), gilded with gold leaffor the clothes and patina for the hands and head. Rhenan or Alsatian work (probably Sundgau, Kochersberg, or the Colmar region), dating from the late 17th or early 18th century, Louis XIV period.

In the Catholic religion, Saint Joseph is the adoptive father of the Infant Jesus and protector of the family.
The following prayer is recited in devotion:

"Oh Glorious Saint Joseph, Head of the Holy Family of Nazareth, so zealous in provide for all its needs, extend to X, Y, Z (we mention the first names of the family concerned) your tender solicitude, and take under your guidanceall spiritual and temporal matters that concern them, andmay their outcome be for the Glory of God and the Salvation of our Souls "In the Catholic religion, Saint Joseph is the adoptive father of the Infant Jesus and the protector of the family.

Our statue is a large-format work to adorn a chapel altar or a large piece of furniture in a property.

Very good condition, original gilding and patina, cleaned by our restorer. Small traces of woodworm, the statue has been treated.
