Sèvres: Royalist Miniature Portrait Of The Duchesse d'Angoulême In Wedgwood-style Cookie

Artist: Manufacture Royale De Sèvres
Miniature profile bust portrait of Marie Thérèse de France, Duchesse d'Angoulême and Dauphine of the Kingdom of France. The Princess Royal can be recognized by her diadem adorned with a fleur-de-lis and the shape of her nose. She is shown here as a young woman, wearing braids and a tiara in the fashionable style of the Empire. This bust portrait was probably made at the very beginning of the Restoration, shortly after 1815. Our Sèvres cookie miniature is presented on a blue background in the Wedgwood style, in a blackened wooden frame with a round view.

The eldest daughter of France's King Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette and titledMadame Royale, Marie Thérèse de France enjoyed a happy childhooduntil the Revolution, which plunged her destiny into tragedy. The onlysurvivor of the royal family, the Temple orphan went into exileunder the Directoire regime. Taken in by her family, she eventually married the Duc d'Angoulême, becoming a king's daughter, then daughter-in-law andDauphine by marrying her first cousin, the eldest son of Charles X.
