Boulle Marquetry Display Cabinet - Louis XIV Style - XIXth Century
Elegant Louis XIV-style, Napoleon III-era (19th century) vitrine à hauteur d'appui (or in-between display cabinet), designed on a sturdy frame of blackened wood veneered oak.
The front opens with a glass door darkened with an interior fabric (burgundy velvet), ideal for showcasing collectibles. The door and lower plinth receive a rich "Boulle" marquetry decoration in the first part, combining fine chased brass scrolls on a brown tortoiseshell background.
Ornamentation and BronzesThe piece features a complete trim of beautifully crafted gilded and chased bronzes:
Upper: Gilded lingotière underlined by a rais de cœur frieze, centered by a large cartel with a mascaron motif and foliate scrolls. Bronze corner spandrels.
Front: Door spandrels adorned with large stylized shells and foliage. Original bronze keyhole.
Sides: Decorated in the center with a large Transition/Louis XIV-style lyre flanked by rosettes at the corners.
Base: Wide, curved plinth underlined by a row of ormolu interlacing, resting on straight skate feet.
The top is topped with original black marble, bringing sobriety and contrasting with the brilliance of the gilding.
