Meiji Lacquer Tray - Chrysanthemum Decor And Manji Medallions
Enjoy the elegance of late 19th-century Japan with this platter.
The Meiji era is world-renowned as the golden age of Japanese lacquerware. Freed from the constraints of the previous period, craftsmen pushed the Maki-e technique to an almost surgical perfection.
This model perfectly illustrates this prestigious savoir-faire:
The Kikusui motif: Delicate chrysanthemums treated in gold and dark hues, floating on stylized streams of water.
Symbolism:
The presence of Manji medallions, ancestral symbols of peace and prosperity.
The Nashiji finish:
The reverse side of the tray and the bottom feature the famous "pear skin" technique. Gold flakes are sprinkled with precision under several layers of translucent lacquer, creating a shimmering depth that catches the light magnificently.
Sold with its wooden box (Tomobako), guaranteeing its excellent preservation.
