Candy Box And Its Miniature Portrait Of A Child
A round Louis XVI tortoiseshell and gold bonbonnière housing on its lid an early 19th-century ivory miniature depicting a seated young child, holding in his hand a string connected to a toy horse on wheels resting on a round table. The pale-faced child with soft features and light brown, slightly curly hair is wearing an elegantly inspired costume of the period: an open red jacket, a light beige vest and a wide white shirt with an open collar. The dark, neutral background highlights the bright face and colorful clothes. The bottom of the box features a cross-braided hair design. The gold hoops are decorated with chased, twisted friezes all around.
