Oil On Canvas By Onorato Carlandi, Roman Countryside, 20th Century
Artist: Onorato Carlandi
In 1875, together with Ettore Roesler Franz, Pio Joris, and Cesare Biseo, he founded the "Society of Roman Watercolorists."
In 1880, he traveled to England, where he studied English landscape painters. He lived in London until 1891, when he returned to Rome and joined the "In Arte Libertas" association. After its dissolution, he founded the "XXV della Campagna Romana" group with other artists, becoming its most prominent member. He befriended the Tuscan painter Cesare Bertolla, with whom he visited the Maccarese marshes, where the waters reflected the splendor of the sky.
In 1899, he participated in the Third International Art Exhibition in Venice.
On April 18, 1908, he was initiated into Freemasonry in Italy at the Rienzi Lodge in Rome. His works are housed in Rome at the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art, the Municipal Gallery of Modern Art, the Gallery of the National Academy of San Luca, and the Museum of Rome, and in Turin at the Civic Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art. This oil on canvas, which requires restoration but is still on its original support, depicts trees in a meadow with St. Peter’s Basilica visible in the distance. Signed lower left.
