Oil on canvas depicting Hercules bringing Alceste back from the Underworld to her husband King Admetus, signed lower right A.LUPIAC, 1923. André Pierre LUPIAC (1873-1956), entered the Toulouse School of Fine Arts at the age of 17, where he won the 2nd Grand Prix in 1893 with "Télémaque gagnant de Périandre". Student of Jean Paul Laurens from 1897, then of Benjamin Constant. He was at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1900, and co-founded the Société des Artistes méridionaux in 1905. He decorated the Toulouse Municipal Council room. In his works, he idealized an ancient Greece from which he drew countless subjects, and became one of the last firefighter painters. 1.64 x 1.33m with its frame.
