Pair Of Plates In Porcelain Of Paris With Night-blue And Gold Decoration - Manufacture Ed. Honoré & C
Elegant pair of Paris porcelain plates dating from the Louis XVIII period, circa 1820-1824, from the Ed. Honoré & Cie factory in Paris, as attested by the mark printed on the reverse.
These plates feature rich hand-painted gold decoration on a particularly elegant deep midnight-blue ground, characteristic of fine early Restoration Parisian production still strongly marked by First Empire aesthetics.
The marli is adorned with a delicate frieze of foliate scrolls, stylized florets, palmettes and suspended motifs treated with great finesse. The overall effect is light and refined, with the precision of the design contrasting harmoniously with the depth of the blue background.
The deliberately uncluttered basin is underlined by a delicate gilded garland surrounding a radiant central motif evoking the antique decorative repertoires revived at the end of the 18th century and under the Empire.
Close-ups reveal the quality of the gilding work, which is entirely hand-crafted. The golds present subtle contrasts between matt and burnished parts, creating particularly refined plays of light. The delicacy of the contours and the slight variations in the brushwork bear witness to true craftsmanship of the highest quality.
The Honoré factory was one of the most important porcelain manufacturers in Paris in the early 19th century. François-Maurice Honoré joined forces with Dagoty before the two companies separated around 1819-1820. The mark on these plates, which predates the mentions of Champroux after 1824, places this production in the early years of the Restoration.
The style of these pieces remains deeply marked by the Empire taste: rigorous symmetry, neoclassical repertoire, influence of antique models and importance of colored backgrounds associated with fine gold. This stylistic continuity is discussed in Régine de Plinval de Guillebon's reference work, Faïence et porcelaine de Paris XVIIIe-XIXe siècles (Éditions Faton).
Very good condition. No chips or cracks. Very slight wear to some gilding, mainly in rubbed areas, not serious.
Dimensions: Diameter: 23.2 cm
