Pair Of Decorative Plates In Langeais Earthenware, After D. Teniers , Rural Scenes
Artist: Manufacture De Langeais Décor D'après David Teniers Lejeune
The marli of each plate is embellished with six garlands of flowers contained in reserves and separated by two rows of carmine dotted lines containing a blue "comb" motif.
The basin of each earthenware piece features a beautiful decoration inspired by paintings by Davod Teniers Le jeune ( - 1695 )
The first painting depicts three figures seen from behind against a lacustrine background.
The second table features two seated men playing cards and a woman serving them a drink, also against a lake background.
Our two plates were made in the late 19th, early 20th century.
The whites come from the Langeais factory and were sold to Parisian CHambrelans (decorators) who created the decor for foreign clients. See : Les Langeais et Leurs Mystères by Paul-Jean Souriau éditions de la Reinette, pages 105 to 175.
Our two plates are signed E. Duc in the decor, and on the reverse is the blue mark with the knotted laurel wreath, surmounted by a Royal crown and the inscription "Lille 1767".
