Table Lamp - Travertine Brut - Area Illuminazione - Italy, Circa 1970
Remarkable pyarmidal lamp base with square cross-section, carved from a block of unplugged Roman travertine with characteristic horizontal veining, alternating warm ochre and beige. The surface retains its natural dimples, a deliberate treatment that lends the piece its sculptural power and places it fully in the brutalist, mineral aesthetic of 1970s Italian design.
The shaft gradually narrows from the base to the crown in an obelisk-like movement of great geometric rigor. Original label present: AREA Illuminazione, a transalpine manufacturer renowned for its high-quality natural stone lighting fixtures.
Post-finished day-light. Ivory white.
Very good condition.
Functional electrical installation.
