Composition 24-006 - Jérôme Lefebvre Deram
Series: Blancs Polychromes
Jérôme Lefebvre Deram's new series of canvases, Blancs Polychromes, explores the encounter between colorful profusion and the quest for unity.
The work is developed in several stages.
First, the artist creates a free, instinctive background: colors are mixed with a brush or directly with his fingers, forming an initial living, almost organic material.
Then comes a second, more constructed stage. Using a float, he applies paint in successive, thick, viscous layers. Each layer dries before welcoming the next. Colors no longer mix on the canvas: they coexist, pure, and recompose themselves in the viewer's eye, in an approach reminiscent of the spirit of pointillism, where perception gives rise to harmony.
Finally, in a third stage, the artist intervenes to unify this effervescence. He lays down successive veils of gold, turquoise, then white. This last layer plays an essential role: it softens, reveals and connects. Sometimes it covers, sometimes it reveals. White captures the light and gives the whole its breath. The final varnish intensifies the contrasts and seals the balance of the work.
Each canvas is constructed as an "all over", without center or hierarchy. It appears as a fragment of a larger whole, an open window onto an expanding pictorial space.
The colors dialogue with each other, creating chords, tensions, rhythms. Like a perfumer composing a fragrance, Jérôme Lefebvre Deram assembles hues into sensitive notes: warm or cold, deep or luminous. Each painting thus becomes an immersive experience, an abstract landscape in constant transformation.
The viewer plays an essential role. Depending on distance, light or moment, new forms emerge, new readings appear. The viewer then becomes co-author of the work.
In this series, we perceive echoes of the great masters - from Le Gréco to Impressionists like Monet or Sisley, to the abstractions of Hartung or Richter - whose influence feeds a resolutely contemporary writing style.
With Blancs Polychromes, Jérôme Lefebvre Deram deepens his research into light and stratification, introducing for the first time a work of unification through white

The artist:
Jérôme Lefebvre Deram was born in Dunkirk in 1982 and works in Northern France.
After studying law, he worked for several years in politics before entering the seminary, in Italy, then in France, where he spent five years. Returning to civilian life, he pursued his quest for meaning, unity and transcendence through painting.
Behind this career path lies a complex man, rich in profound intellectual and human experience, who combines rational thought with an intense personal and spiritual quest. His work embodies a search for truth, a balance between intuition and reflection, and an exploration of human dualities, between light and shadow, chaos and order. Influenced by Impressionism, Abstract Expressionism and Lyrical Abstraction, Jérôme Lefebvre Deram follows in the footsteps of these currents, enabling him to translate this intimate and powerful experience into the alliance of color, gesture and material as a vehicle for deep emotion and meaning. His paintings become for the viewer a subject for reflection, meditation and contemplation.
