Pair Of Neoclassical Bronze And Marble Candelabras, Louis XVI Style, Napoleon III Period.
Elegant pair of four-light candelabra in finely chased and gilded bronze and white marble, French work of the Napoleon III period in the Louis XVI taste.
This pair faithfully reproduces the neoclassical ornamental repertoire of the late 18th century, in a particularly refined and decorative interpretation. The ensemble is captivating for its balanced proportions, the finesse of its design and the richness of its ornamentation, which is abundant but never excessive.
The candelabras rest on a circular base in molded white marble, underlined by a frieze of gilded bronze pearls. The terrace features a radiating décor of canals surmounted by an elegant tapered and fluted shaft in white marble, punctuated at the ends by ormolu mounts decorated with stylized acanthus leaves.
The upper part takes the form of an antique cassolette, a motif emblematic of the Louis XVI style and archaeological taste. It is enriched with garlands of laurel leaves embellished with berries, held in place by finely-worked ribbon bows. A laurel frieze also punctuates certain parts of the decor, while the elegantly curved light arms are adorned with water leaves and falling ribbons.
The bobèches and binnets feature particularly careful fluted decoration.
The upper cushion, very characteristic of Louis XVI decorative vocabulary, is composed of an elegant bouquet of flowers, fruit and foliage, springing from a form evoking an antique flame or torch.
The ensemble bears witness to fine craftsmanship, as well as original gilding retaining a pleasant antique patina.
Good overall condition. Original gilding showing slight wear and a nice old patina. Minor chips to the white marble. Complete original set.
