Pair Of
An important and elegant pair of Louis XV-style "à la reine" flat-back armchairs made in the late 19th or early 20th century, in the spirit of fine 18th-century French seating.
These armchairs are immediately seductive, with their ample, generous shapes and beautiful proportions, as well as the comfort of their wide seats upholstered with independent cushions, offering particularly pleasant, welcoming seating. The well-designed, flat, curved backrests rest on a structure with soft, harmonious lines, typical of the great Louis XV models.
The molded and carved woods feature an elegantly treated decoration of florets, foliage and carved staples on the shoulders.
The armchairs retain a beautiful original finish, lacquered in a light tone and delicately rechambered in gold. The particularly meticulous repainting subtly highlights the sculpted reliefs and contours of the seats. Today, the ensemble shows numerous small chips, wear and rubs from use, revealing in places the warmth of the underlying wood, giving the armchairs a beautiful patina and a great deal of charm.
They are upholstered in a beautiful velvet in raspberry tones, perfectly in keeping with the decorative spirit of these seats. The fabric shows some light signs of use, but remains in good overall condition.
The structure is sound and very stable; the chairs are perfectly suitable for everyday use.
