This magnificent papyrus scroll, dating from the late Ptolemaic period (305-30 BC), is an exceptional witness to the history of time. Written in Demotic, an ancient Egyptian writing system used for administrative and commercial purposes as an abbreviation of hieroglyphics, it has just arrived at the gallery. Rolled up, it hasn't been unrolled for millennia. This precious testimony to linguistic history is both a fascinating and beautiful object. It is presented on a contemporary metal stand.

Provenance: from a major Canadian antiquities collection, acquired from a New York antiquities gallery in the early 2000s.
