18th Century Dutch Carafe In Blown, Cut And Engraved Glass, Known As A Boule Hollandaise (dutch Ball)

* A very fine 18th-century Dutch carafe in excellent condition (known as a ‘Dutch ball’)
Blown and engraved glass with rich applied decoration, worked with pliers and hot-glued to form serrated rings encircling the neck and shoulder.
On the body, dotted with plumetis, sinuous bands arranged in a cascading pattern delineate panels adorned with four different motifs: a windmill highlighted by a serpent, a dove carrying a flowering branch in its beak, and dutch yacht Statenjacht with serpent; each of these three distinct motifs alternates with three panels featuring vine tendrils.
The tubular collar is flanked by elegant S-shaped loops, the lower fastenings of which are embellished with ‘notches’ shaped with pliers, bearing the criss-crossed marks of the pliers’ jaws.
