Henri-Gabriel Ibels (1867-1936) was a French painter, illustrator and poster artist, a founding member of the Nabis movement at the end of the XIXᵉ century. Trained at the Académie Julian, he rubbed shoulders with Bonnard, Vuillard and Toulouse-Lautrec, with whom he shared an interest in Parisian life and popular entertainment.
.Nicknamed the "Nabi journalist", he distinguished himself with his drawings and lithographs inspired by cafés-concerts, the circus, theater and the street. Highly politically committed, he contributed to numerous satirical journals and took a stand in favor of Dreyfus during the Dreyfus Affair.
His work, with its lively, modern lines, blends art, the press and social commitment, making him an original and important figure in the French avant-garde.
