Magnificent oil on canvas in excellent condition, in its original frame. So charming! A small path and a wayside cross through an olive grove. It's luminous, and you can almost hear the cicadas! The artist is Gabriel Deschamps, a 20th-century painter from Haute-Savoie. He is known as a landscape painter. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, first in 1939-1940, then with Eugène Narbonne. He exhibited in Paris from 1944 onwards at the Salon d'Automne, where he became secretary, at the Salon des Artistes Indépendants in 1953 and 1954, at the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts from 1960 to 1964, and at the Salon Comparaisons from 1962 to 1968. His figurative painting is intentionally subjective. He seeks to recreate nature without being its victim. His paintings have always been very successful in France and especially internationally.
