Large 18th-century Glazed Earthenware Plate.
An exceptional and extremely rare glazed earthenware plate. Most likely from the 18th century.
This large earthenware plate is decorated with very finely painted large yellow, orange, and
blue flowers, birds, and a large butterfly. In the center is a wood-imitating tray set with bronze, atop which rests
a blue plaque imitating lapis lazuli. Placed in its center is a multi-lobed pedestal vase decorated with
large blue daisies and two crossed red squares or ribbons. Along the edge of the plaque is a delicate garland
of small flowers and daisies, indicating that it retains its original dimensions.
The plate is in perfect condition, with no cracks or restoration. It is presented in a
frame that appears to be the original, made of molded blackened wood. (Very good condition.)
The entire piece is heavy, weighing 7 kg in total. It measures 66 cm wide by 36.5 cm high (with frame).
The plaque itself, made of very thick earthenware, measures 58.5 cm x 29 cm.
I would like to emphasize that the piece is in excellent condition and has not undergone any restoration.
I admit I cannot say for certain, but I would venture to say it is Italian in origin.
