Curt Victor Clemens Grolig (1805–1862)
Self-taught, he began exhibiting his still lifes—flowers and fruits—in Dresden as early as 1822. From 1827 onward, he studied at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts under Johan Christian Dahl until 1833. He then traveled through northern Germany, Denmark, Norway, and the Netherlands. In 1838, he returned to Munich, visited Algeria in 1842, and then arrived in Paris, where he studied under Hippolyte Lazerges and Benjamin Roubaud. He exhibited at the Salon from 1844 to 1861.
In 1845, he was awarded a gold medal.
In 1847, he married Agathe Clauzon Descous in Algiers.
He moved to Versailles, where he became a student and collaborator of Horace Vernet.
He died at his home in Versailles at the age of 57.
Large size and in good overall condition.
