Pair Of Juwc 1897 (united Wilson) Chinese Porcelain Tea Caddies In The Meissen Style

Pair of porcelain tea caddies by the United Wilson Porcelain Company (JUWC), the historic Chinese factory founded in 1897, executed in the late-eighteenth-century Meissen taste with finely drawn puce (pink-magenta) monochrome decoration. Each caddy is of upright rectangular flask form with sloping shoulders and a short cylindrical neck fitted with its original domed stopper.

The white porcelain body is hand-painted in iron-puce enamel with a central reserve depicting a basket of overflowing roses and trailing flowers in the manner of "deutsche Blumen," beneath swagged floral garlands suspended from the shoulders, the narrow side panels each accented with a delicate sprig, and the stoppers and shoulders bordered with running floral and ribbon-tied trellis motifs — a refined neoclassical scheme drawn from eighteenth-century Saxon and continental prototypes. The undersides bear the printed United Wilson mark in puce: a coronet above the entwined cipher "JUWC" over a banner inscribed "1897," identifying the maker.

Dimensions: each caddy stands 14.3 cm high, 9.8 cm long, and 5 cm wide; combined weight of the pair 1,082 g.

Condition is excellent antique, the pair retaining their original stoppers and crisp enamel decoration; both display a fine all-over craquelure to the glaze (a delicate web of surface lines in the enamel only — not body cracks), one slightly more pronounced than the other, otherwise free of chips, restoration, or losses. A decorative and well-matched pair from one of the most respected late-Qing/Republican porcelain houses, in the European revival taste.
