Inspired by Imari porcelain from the Meiji period, its polychrome decoration on enamelled porcelain is both Japanese-like with its blue colors, orange on a white background and Sino-European with its fauna and flora of small birds on flowery branches.
Created at the beginning of the 20th century, this vase with its particular organic shape, called "polybae", is signed by Wan Li Chang, which translates as "Prosperity over ten thousand leagues": a poetic and truthful formula that evokes travel and wealth, given that these are porcelain intended for export to wealthy European customers. The Wan Li Chang ceramic is renowned for its inspiration from Imari porcelain, echoing its codes, with the techniques of Chinese master ceramists.
Halfway between a decorative vase and an object of art, this vase has a sculptural presence of character: the foot divided into two parts creates an elegant balance while highlighting the Japanese-like richness of the design finely hand-executed with a warm palette of colors, which will not fail to attract attention, and inhibit topics of conversation, because this vase is the materialization of the crossing of Chinese, Japanese, and European cultures.
