De La Fosse Erotica - 3 Pencils 17eme
French school circa 1700, entourage of Charles De La Fosse
An allegory of lust(?) holding a medallion depicting two fornicating figures
Three pencils on prepared paper
57 x 44.5 cm framed - 41 x 28 cm on sheet
Small stains and accidents on the edges
Style framing
A rather strange subject, with a relatively "classical" treatment of the allegorical figure that seems to evoke the goddess Flora or Ceres, and this shield/medallion surrounded by flowers that is jarring by its subject: A couple making love. The workmanship and materials (3 pencils, very thick, ragged prepared paper) directly evoke the influence of Charles de La Fosse.
Shipping offered and insured in mainland France. Can be seen and picked up at my stand at the Saint-Ouen flea market.
