Anicet Charles-Gabriel LEMONNIER (Rouen 1743 - Paris 1824)
Drawing for the official costume of professor of the faculty of medicine (Circa 1794)
Pen, wash and watercolor over pencil lines
29 x 15.5 cm
Framed

Provenances :
- Christie's, New-York, January 28, 2000, lot n°85
- Artcurial, Paris, September 26, 2023, lot no. 215
- Private collection between Paris Faubourg St-Honoré and the park of Château de Cuts (Oise)

Drawing created when he took up the post of official painter at the Ecole de Médecine in Paris in 1794. He remained in this position until the end of his life, painting portraits of four famous doctors (Corvisart, Chaptal, Fourcroy, etc.). The drawing presented here is a design for their official representational costume. We don't know the identity of the model, but it could be a famous doctor of his time.
