Superb Yalameh rug from southwest Iran.
Woven and knotted wool on wool. The pile is short, one of the hallmarks of ancient Persian production.
The piece is the work of the nomadic Qashqai people.
The composition is highly atypical and, in the final analysis, not very academic. The central field is a succession of Abrash, tonal differences around a single color.
In the center, we observe a classic lozenge medallion. More unexpected are the lateral stylized bird motifs separated by octagonal floral motifs, bringing balance to the whole.
The borders are composed of small floral motifs evoking the protection of the field.
Magnificent plant hues of infinite softness. The indigo blues seem liquid.
Liserets completely redone by Saïd, our restorer. Stopping point at each end at the bangs. No other restoration on the intact surface.
