19th Century Italian Mythological Painting

Antique Italian painting from the second half of the 19th century. An antique copy of Guy Head's famous late 18th-century masterpiece, "Iris Carrying Water from the River Styx to Olympus for the Oath of the Gods," of excellent pictorial quality. This artwork oil on canvas, on its first canvas, replicates the original painting in subject and size, now exhibited at the National Gallery of Scotland. The beautifully decorated 20th-century carved and gilded wooden frame is a perfect fit.

Perfectly proportioned, this painting would easily fit into any room in the home, making it a favorite with antique dealers and collectors. The canvas has some old conservative restoration work, with a patch visible on the back (see photo).
