Great 17th Century Flemish Landscape Painting, Village Festival

COD 01092

A magnificent Flemish painting from the first half of the 17th century. This painting oil on canvas depicts a splendid landscape with figures, a lively genre scene of a Dutch village. A crowd of peasants engage in dancing, conversation, and daily chores, while a windmill dominates the composition in the background.

The painting combines narrative finesse and decorative appeal, offering a fascinating glimpse of Northern European folk life. The festive atmosphere, narrative density, and attention to detail immediately evoke the 17th-century Flemish tradition. The painting features an initials at the bottom left (T.D.F. and a date that is not fully legible, likely an acronym for Teniers David fecit), attributed to David Teniers the Younger (1610-1690).

A master of depicting folk life, he elevated genre painting to a refined narrative form, capable of combining realistic observation with a taste for theatricality. (This artwork is currently not accompanied by an expert opinion, but it can be requested upon payment of the relevant additional costs.)

A painting of remarkable pictorial quality and monumental size, ideal for a large classical or modern reception room. The spectacular 19th-century wood and plaster frame is beautifully decorated, with some signs of aging. The painting has already been restored with re-lining, replacement of the stretcher, and repainting in small areas, but is in overall good condition. Internal dimensions: H 106 x W 158 cm.
