Carved Shell Cameo - Neptune And Marine Procession - Grand Tour Work, 19th Century .
Camée in carved shell - Neptune and marine procession - Grand Tour work, 19th century
Important oval cameo finely carved in shell, representing a mythological scene animated around Neptune, god of the seas, accompanied by his marine procession composed of tritons, nereids and allegorical figures.
The composition, particularly rich and dynamic, is organized around the god holding his trident, surrounded by moving figures in a setting of waves and clouds. The whole evokes the grand neoclassical compositions inspired by Antiquity, highly prized in Grand Tour productions in the 19th century.
The sculptural work is distinguished by fine craftsmanship, particularly in the modeling of bodies, the treatment of drapery and the rendering of different planes, taking advantage of the natural nuances of the shell to accentuate contrasts.
We note the presence of a signature at the bottom, difficult to read, nevertheless testifying to the work of a specialized workshop.
Presented in a later frame, mounted on red felt highlighting the sculpture.
