"Horse Of Marly In Spelter After Guillaume Coustou 19th Century"
Beautiful representation with medal patina of a horse from Marly held by its groom after Guillaume Coustou, in very good original condition. Height 36 cm, length 33 cm, width 14 cm. The Horses of Marly are two sculpted groups representing prancing horses and their grooms. In Carrara marble, they were executed between 1743 and 1745 by Guillaume Coustou. The Horses of Marly were commissioned in 1739 by Louis The models were chosen by the king in 1743, and were installed in Marly in 1745, after only two years of work. In 1794, they were transferred to Place de la Concorde. Guillaume Coustou's latest works, the Chevaux de Marly enjoyed certain success (multiplication, among other things, of reduced-scale replicas) and announced the enthusiasm of romantic artists for equestrian subjects, such as Théodore Géricault.
