Wonderful Kuba kilim from Azerbaijan in the Caucasus. The piece has all the characteristics of ancient Caucasian kilims.
Starting with the finesse and regularity of its wool-on-wool weaving. You can measure the experience and dexterity of the weaver on every square centimeter.
The piece is supple and surprisingly light given its spectacular dimensions.
Second point, the shades. This is the main element in estimating a date. Here, they are deep and luminous, in other words, dense and saturated. The durability of these hues can be measured over several centuries. They require large quantities of plants and other natural pigments, a skill that has almost completely disappeared.
Let yourself be guided by a powerful red ochre field containing 4 large medallions protected on either side by a succession of wolf's mouths. The borders are animated by uninterrupted geometric motifs in magnificent apricot tones.
This piece has just been completely restored in our workshop. Surface, edging and stitching have all been carried out to the highest standards, allowing this extraordinary kilim to be reborn with its original freshness.
At first glance, its impressive proportions, its luminosity, the harmony of its hues, a certain softness too, and a very graphic appearance, seduce the eye. All this makes it a highly decorative piece that only needs a beautiful space to express itself...
