Silver-mounted Inkwell In Shoe Late 19th - Early 20th Century.
Silver-mounted clog inkwell
Late 19th - early 20th century work
English hunting / sportsman universe
An astonishing and rare inkwell made from a genuine hoof, probably a horse's, mounted with a finely worked silver trim.
The frame features chased decoration evoking fur, topped by a lid forming a central inkwell with lateral reserve. The whole rests on the hoof preserved in its natural form, in accordance with a decorative tradition highly prized in the Anglo-Saxon world at the end of the 19th century, particularly in circles linked to hunting and equestrian sports.
The rim is decorated with a chiselled decoration evocative of fur.
The rim bears a partially legible engraved inscription mentioning:
"Victor Brooke" (probable reading), accompanied by other elements that are difficult to decipher, as well as the terms:
"Sportsman" - "Favourite" - "Hunter", reinforcing the hypothesis of a commemorative object linked to a horse or a hunting event.
An engraved animal motif (hunting dog or stylized wolf) also appears, underlining this hunting theme.
Presence of hallmarks on the mounting, consistent with a European production, possibly English or Belgian.
Curiosity object with a strong identity, both decorative and steeped in history, typical of memorabilia or trophies from the world of gentlemen sportsmen.
