Antique Art Deco 1920-40 Stoneware Vase, Art Nouveau & Chinoiserie Style

Very fine antique vase, 1920s-1940s, perhaps mid-1930s. Unsigned, in fine stoneware bisque (or possibly porcelain), in a style mixing art nouveau and chinoiserie. Hand-crafted, turned, stamped and hand-painted, with glazing on the inside only. Full amphora shape resting on a small, slightly raised round base, with a narrow neck and flared neck, featuring two double handles in the Art Nouveau / Art Deco spirit. Unglazed exterior, matt beige cookie texture, decorated with dark Payne blue piping and Chinese-inspired floral and geometric motifs, close in places to a paisley pattern, grey/black painted filling in the petals and on the leaves, black piping and handles. The brown-black metallic enamel interior is reminiscent of certain Belgian products from the interwar period; the shape of the handles, the material and the technique suggest European manufacture. The chinoiserie-style decoration is misleading here, as this is most probably not an Asian production. This vase does not come from industrial or semi-industrial mass production: a slight deformation of the neck shows that it was made by hand. An unusual and rare object, highly decorative, probably from Belgian, French or Dutch production.

Height 25.5 cm, width 21 cm at handles, maximum diameter 15-16 cm, diameter at neck 10 cm, weight approx. 1 kg. Perfect condition, nothing noteworthy, a few small discreet stains, visible use inside but little marked.
