Antique Porcelain Subject
Superb and rare relatively large subject, early 20s-30s, probably French or German production but in the Russian taste, Art Deco style, depicting a woman with high headdress and gilded top, draped in an ermine cape, cobalt blue. Very fair skinned, with a gentle face, she is reading a book, a small missal. This signature could refer to Jeanne de Leyritz-Vesques (1885-1940), known before her marriage as Jeanne Vesques, a sculptor and ceramist active in the 1920s, wife of sculptor Léon Leyritz, with whom she may have collaborated in the creation of this model. Another, less likely lead would be to Juliette Vesque (Manufacture de Sèvres), with a possible misspelling or pluralization of the signature at the time of reproduction. This is a manufactured reproduction, the manufacture is unknown.
29.5cm high, 9cm wide, 14cm long with cape train. Very good overall condition, no cracks or chips, light deformations notably to the cape, quite discreet. Approx. 800gr
