Antique Art Deco Vase (1920-40) In Fine Stoneware, Art Nouveau And Chinoiserie Style

A very beautiful antique vase, dating from the 1920s-1940s, possibly the mid-1930s. Unsigned, made of fine stoneware (or possibly porcelain), in a style blending Art Nouveau and Chinoiserie. Handcrafted, thrown on the wheel, decorated with a hand-stamped technique and hand-painted, with glazing only on the interior. The bulbous amphora shape rests on a small, slightly raised round base, with a narrow neck and flared rim, and is fitted with two double handles in the Art Nouveau/Art Deco style. The exterior is unglazed, with a matte beige biscuit texture, decorated with a hand-stamped design of dark Payne's blue borders and floral and geometric motifs of Chinese inspiration, in places resembling a paisley pattern. The petals and leaves are painted in gray/black, while the borders and handles are painted black. The interior is glazed in a metallic brown-black, reminiscent of certain Belgian pieces from the interwar period; the shape of the handles, the material, and the technique suggest European manufacture. The chinoiserie-style decoration is misleading; this is most likely not an Asian piece. This vase was not mass-produced, either industrially or semi-industrially: a slight deformation of the neck reveals that it was handmade. An unusual and rare object, highly decorative, probably of Belgian, French, or Dutch origin. Height 25.5 cm, width 21 cm at the handles, maximum diameter 15-16 cm, diameter at the neck 10 cm, weight approximately 1 kg. Excellent condition, nothing noteworthy, a few small, discreet stains, visible but minimal wear on the interior.
